Tirokroketes the fried cheese balls are a popular Greek snack. Every Greek tavern has this appetizer on its menu. A beautiful golden brown crispy crust encasing the molten cheese is an absolute foodie delight. The tangy naturally flavoured feta, sweet Gouda and salty Cheddar mixed together in the right proportion gives this cheesy indulgence the much-desired mouthfeel.
Tirokroketes Recipe:
Ingredients for Tirokroketes:
- Cheddar, feta, and Gouda cheese 100 gms each
- Maida 3 tbsp
- Potato mash 1/2cup
- Pepper as desired
- Salt a pinch
- Oil for frying
- Maida for breading
Preparation Method:
- Crumble the cheese. Mix the potato, pepper, salt, and maida into a smooth dough.
- Roll into lemon sized balls. Dip each ball in Maida. Shake the extra Maida and arrange on a plate.
- Refrigerate the balls for an hour.
- Heat oil in a fry pan.
- When medium hot, gently slide in the cheese balls.
- Fry till golden brown. Serve hot.
